Picea pungens Park Grade

Park Grade refers to the quality of the shape of the spruce tree. These character trees are good for shelterbelts, windbreaks, exterior plantings and park settings. They usually have some irregular shaping and may not be even all the way around. There may be an a partially open side or iregularly spaced branches. These are healthy and hardy trees but may not be appropriate as a feature tree.

Description: Our selection of this pioneer spruce has been used in the prairies since the early 1900’s and is native to the Rockies.  Its strong pyramidal shape and color make this a landscape favorite.  They tolerate a wide range of well-drained soils, but not standing water.

Ornamental Features: Attractive blue foliage which emerges silvery blue in spring. The needles remain blue through the winter. Rough gray bark adds an interesting dimension to the landscape.

Landscape Attributes: Dense evergreen tree with a strong central leader. Distinctive and refined pyramidal form. Extremely hardy and rugged.
