Description
Lilium leichtlinii
Description: This species of lily was so named to honour German lily collector Max Leichtlin, although it is more commonly referred to as a tiger lily. While closely related and similar in appearance to the tiger lilies, Lilium leichtlinii is a parent to many of the hybrid Asiatic lily cultivars.
Ornamental Features: The tall and graceful plants feature deep green, lance-shaped foliage spirally arranged around the central stem. The flower stems are long and can produce up to 20 golden yellow blooms with strongly reflexed petals. Chocolate brown speckles dot the surface of the cheery petals, like a flush of freckles.
Landscape Attributes: Is an herbaceous perennial with a rigidly upright and towering form. Large flowers make a stunning statement and may require staking. Prefers full to part sun and is not fussy about soil provided it is well draining. Note: Lilies are toxic to cats.
