Description: This exceptional cultivar of the native North American big bluestem grass performs well in a wide range of climates and soil conditions. Features a long season of ornamental interest and fascinating colour progressions. Makes an excellent screening or border grass. Â
Ornamental Features: The long thin leaves emerge grayish green in spring, becoming greener through the early summer. In midsummer, the flower plumes begin to form in silvery purples. As the summer lengthens, the plumes deepen in colour and form seed heads in a deep plum. Meanwhile, the foliage deepens to incredible shades of smoky purple and burgundy on rich red stems as fall approaches.Â
Landscape Features: Brings a fine and delicate texture to the garden composition in spectacular and unusual shades. Excellent for vertical accent, mass planting, or grass hedges. The flower plumes are attractive and make beautiful cut/dried flower for arrangements or crafts. Unlike many ornamental grasses, will not become invasive.
