Description: ‘Goldtau’ is a graceful, clump-forming cultivar of the native North American tufted hair grass. One of the only ornamental grasses to perform well in partial shade conditions, ‘Goldtau’ features delicate panicles of feathery flowers emerging in early summer and persisting well into winter.
Ornamental Features: The semi-evergreen foliage forms a low and dense clump that reaches a height of about 18″. In early summer, arching stems rise up to 3′ above the foliage bearing flowers that bloom in a feathery purple-green. As the season progresses, the flower plumes mellow to a lovely golden brown. The airy flowers sway gracefully in the slightest breeze, and look particularly incredible when backlit by the rising or setting sun.
Landscape Features: Adds height and fine texture to the garden with its elegant form. Perfect for beds and borders, cottage gardens, prairie plantings, and reclamation plantings. The golden flower plumes in the late summer pair wonderfully with late summer blooming flowers like coneflowers and sunflowers. Unlike many ornamental grasses, will not become invasive.
