Description
Echinacea ‘Magnus’ Coneflower
Zone: 3-8
Exposure: Full sun
Mature Size: 30-36″ H x 12-18″ W
Flower Colour: Rosy purple
Flowering Time: Early summer to late summer
Description: An award winning cultivar of our native North American purple coneflower. This variety is slightly more compact in the garden, usually attaining a full height of around three feet. A profusion of straight, rosy purple ray petals are arranged around a central cone.
Ornamental Features: This coneflower will have pollinators visiting your garden all summer, with flowers that typically begin blooming in late June. With deadheading, you may even get a fall flush of flowers! The petals on this variety are held straight out, rather than dropping like other coneflowers. The result is a flower more like a ballerina’s tutu than a cone!
Landscape Features: This upright, somewhat compact and hardy perennial will be visited by bees and butterflies all throughout the summer. Hardier than newer cultivars, ‘Magnus’ is a tried-and-true performer that is equally at home in structured borders as it is in prairie or cottage gardens. Makes an excellent cut flower. Drought tolerant and deer resistant.
