Vitis riparia ‘Valiant’
Zone: 2
Exposure: Full Sun
Mature Size: 6′ high x 2′ wide
Form: Woody vine
Foliage Color: Dark green

Description: One of the hardiest grape cultivars available, this vine should withstand winters in zones 2B and higher. The fruit is small, but is extremely flavourful with very productive vines that typically ripen in late August.
Ornamental Features: Dark green foliage throughout the season turns yellow in the fall. Fruits are on the smaller side, with deep blue to nearly black skins. The flesh is both sweet and tart, with a pleasing jelly-like consistency. Taste is very similar to a Concorde and make for great fresh eating, jellies and juices.
Landscape Attributes: Upright spreading vine; will require support with trellising. Maintenance; best pruned in late winter or early spring. An excellent choice for the home orchard, vines can be grown against fencing and take up little space.
