Description
Caragana arborescens
Common Caragana/Siberian Peashrub
Description: An extremely hardy and adaptable multi-stemmed deciduous shrub with fern-like green leaves and cheerful yellow pea flowers in spring. Makes a superb hedge or mid-height shelterbelt.
Ornamental Features: Small, light green leaves are pinnately compound, adding texture to the landscape. Pretty yellow pea flowers appear in spring and give way to seed pods that look somewhat like small pea pods. Smooth olive green bark adds an interesting dimension to the landscape and looks lovely against the white snow in winter.
Landscape Attributes: Open multi-stemmed deciduous shrub with a upright, spreading habit. Can be pruned at any time. Drought tolerant, and tolerant of a wide range of soil conditions. Deer will occasionally browse on the leaves, but generally prefer tastier, less dense shrubs.
