Description: Commonly known as a tree Hydrangea or a smooth Hydrangea, Hydrangea arborescens features huge, rounded flowerheads made up of tiny individual florets. The large, candy pink flowers of ‘Pinkerella’ bloom in midsummer on strong, non-flopping stems and remain attractive until fall.
Ornamental Features: Tidy, bright green foliage throughout the season is a beautiful backdrop for the huge, eye catching flowers. The bloom period starts in July and the flowers last until frost, and don’t discolour or brown like other pink smooth Hydrangeas. Butterflies flock to the nectar-rich flowers, which also make excellent fresh cut or dried bouquets!
Landscape Attributes: Cold hardy, multi-stemmed deciduous shrub with a rounded form. Low maintenance; best pruned in late winter after the threat of extreme cold has passed. Hydrangea arborescens blooms on new wood, so you don’t need to worry about overpruning.
