Description: An ornamental species of the popular edible rhubarb, this plant is grown for its enormous, serrated, deeply lobed leaves. New foliage emerges deep purple in spring and becomes dark green as the season progresses. In late spring, huge flower stalks rise well above the large leaves, and blossom into tall, feathery white plumes with a hit of pink.
Ornamental Features: An incredible plant to add a lush, almost tropical look with great structure and long-lasting, unique blooms. It is particularly well suited near streams, ponds, or other water features but also performs very well in borders.
Landscape Attributes: Provides structure and interest with unique, large leaves. This plant is virtually pest free, and easy to care for, but ensure no parts of this rhubarb are ingested. Prefers some afternoon shade in the heat of summer. Deadhead flower spikes after blooming.
