Description
Actaea simplex ‘Atropurpurea’
H: 48-60″ H x 24-36″W
Exposure: Part Sun to Full Shade
Flower Colour: Light Pink to White
Bloom Time: Late summer to mid-fall
Description: A stunning woodland plant with deep green, lacy foliage flushed with deep purple bronze. The delicate-looking foliage provides unique colour and texture and performs well in shady areas. Long flower spikes will rise an additional 12-24″ above the foliage in midsummer.
Ornamental Features: An excellent choice for striking foliage and flowers in shadier areas. The long flower spikes start emerging in midsummer. Small, creamy white, strongly fragrant flowers burst from a profusion of pink-tinged buds along the stem which creates a bottlebrush effect. Its dark, textured leaves look stunning in a woodland border paired with bright green foliage plants like ferns or hostas.
Landscape Features: Thrives in shade, part-shade and woodland settings with moist, well-drained soils and is ignored by deer and rabbits. Bugbane gets its name from its unique ability to repel insects and is a reliable bloomer even in deep shade.
